Front DoorThe front door is the main entrance of a house or building and is usually decorated in order to appear inviting. The front door also plays an aesthetic role and sets an impression of what lies beyond. Different types of front doors include French doors, blind doors, Dutch door, barn door, bi-fold door, louver door, luan doors, garden door, revolving doors, sliding glass door and pocket doors, among others. Door furniture is used to further accentuate the front door and include doorknobs, hinges, letter plates, peepholes, door stops, fingerplates and key holes, among others. French doors are popular and lend elegance. They allow easy opening and closing of the doors. Front doors are meant to protect the building, so they must be tough, yet gracious. They also need to sustain weather conditions and as such may be made of UPVC or metal, besides wood, marble or glass. Wooden doors are mostly used and are available in oak, cherry, walnut, mahogany, maple, fir, and pine. Steel units do not crack or warp easily and are a good choice when security and durability are top priorities. Fibreglass-composite doors are tough and good for harsh and humid conditions. For security reasons, all front doors must use good locking systems. |
