ShedsThe origin of the term ’shed’ can be traced to the late fifteenth century when the word ’shadde’ came into usage. Sheds are constructed in back gardens or compounds to serve as a facility for storage or hobbies. These single-storey structures can also serve as offices or workshops. Old furniture pieces and household items are often stored in sheds for convenience. Sheds can be built using different materials like wood, metal and bricks. These buildings often feature wooden frames and tin roofs. Metal sheds are not very common as they become very hot due to the sunlight. They vary in size according to the requirements of the person who uses them. Sheds used in factories and farms are much bigger than the normal ones. These structures are often partitioned for segregation into different storage areas. They often feature doors, windows, electrical outlets, basic furniture and shingled roofs. The domestic sheds or garden sheds can be small or large in size, and they are used for storing tools and equipments like lawn tractors, gardening supplies and lawn mowers. Those items that are unsuitable for indoor storage like pesticides and gasoline are also kept in these domestic sheds. Wooden sheds are commonly built on farms, and they are used for keeping bicycles or animals in them. |
