AmberAmber is widely used while manufacturing ornamental objects. It is a fossil of resin or tree sap and is considered as a gemstone. However, unlike other precious stones like turquoise and jade, it is not mineralized. Currently, the most widely used amber is around 30ñ90 million years old. Since amber is made of tree sap, it sometimes contains preserved insects that were trapped millions of years ago. Amber is found on the shores of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Russia is the leading producer of amber and around 90% of amber production comes from Kaliningrad region of Russia. Amber comes in variety of colours like yellow, orange, red, white, brown, green and blue. It can be transparent or clouded or it can have smoky and even opaque swirls in it. Transparent ambers are available in different tones like pale to dark yellow or yellow light brown, whereas cloudy ambers are available in attractive colours. Different types of amber include Blue amber, Dominican amber, Baltic amber and Delatynite. Amber is mainly used to make jewellery and ornaments. Amber jewellery looks extremely beautiful and eye-catching. It is also believed that it brings good health to the person wearing amber jewellery and also improves the wearer’s mood. Amber earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, pendants and brooch, among others are popular amber jewellery items.
