BanglesBangles are ornaments that are usually worn by women; however men may also choose to wear them, on their arms and wrists. Bangles are usually circular in shape, and by not being flexible are different from bracelets. The word "bangle" is derived from the Hindi word "bungri", meaning "glass". Bangles may be made from precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, etc., or from other substances like plastic, wood, ferrous metals, glass, etc. More common substance used is glass, like fused-glass or enamel; wood, often carved or turned; shells and other natural animal substances such as bone and ivory; natural clay; polymer clay; and plastics. Bangles may be plane and simple, or may incorporate extremely artistic patterns and intricate details. Bangles are often studded with precious and semi-precious stones like diamonds, gems and pearls. Bangles also make frequent use of beads, which may be small or large depending on the piece. Some bangles are studded by imitation stones made from various types of glass. Bangles made from precious metals like gold and silver are known to make a substantial jingling sound. In direct contrast, cheap imitation bangles produce a tinny sound when jingled. Gold and silver bangles can be found on sale on many online jewellery shopping portals. |
