BelcherBelcher is one of the most renowned jewellery styles used prominently in the design of chain ornaments. Immensely popular in the United Kingdom, the land of its origin, today this style has made its presence felt in other parts of the world as well. The Belcher style is often seen on rings and chain jewellery like necklaces, bracelets and anklets. The Belcher jewellery style has got an intriguing background with the style being not defined clearly. However, three different general definitions are accepted world-wide. A Belcher chain is defined as a trace chain arrangement which features broad links of equal length and made of D-section wire. The Belcher ring is a ring with a loop broad enough to allow a scarf to pass through. Currently, such types of rings are known as "scarf rings". Similarly, Belcher is also known as a setting arrangement used in the manufacture of jewellery items wherein the ring stone is secured in its place with the help of prongs or claws. These Belcher prongs are placed up to the ring’s bar thereby firmly setting the stone in its required place. Currently, Belcher as a style is also used in the manufacture of beautifully designed watches. One can find Belcher watches, Belcher bracelets and Belcher necklaces made of gold or silver featuring myriad designs. |
