Brooch

A shimmering brooch set on a coat or a gown gives the wearer an elegant look. A brooch, also known as the broach, is a type of decorative jewellery that is pined to a garment. A brooch has a significant design made from metal and is attached to the pin. A brooch is found in a variety of styles and the price range differs from minimal to expensive. A brooch made of silver or gold is often studded with precious stones, thus, increasing the overall price of the object. Sometimes, the brooch proves to have great utility, especially when it acts as a fastener for joining two garments together.

If one traces the history of the brooch, the concept of this decorative object first arose during the Bronze Age. The brooch was much popular among the Romans and the Greeks too. Still in fashion, the penannular, cloak pin or open ring brooches were Roman and Celtic in origin. A penannular brooch is an almost complete circle with a pin attached at exactly the opposite end. This brooch can be worn by directly piercing the pin inside the dress, flipping the ring and then wearing it or one can turn the ring and wear it. Most of these ethnic brooches have a dragon’s head or some other kind of animal head. Another prominent design for brooches is the sword and the shield. A brooch should be selected according to the wearer’s personality. For example, some brooches are more feminine than others. These should be worn with gowns and dresses by women. If the dress gives a wearer that delicate look, a colossal brooch would look out of place on such a dress.
