CasioCasio is a Japanese electronics manufacturing company that was founded in 1946. Casio is headquartered in Tokyo, and is well-known and revered throughout the world for its line of calculators, audio equipment, PDAs, cameras, musical instruments, and watches. It became the first company in the world to release an entirely electric compact calculator, when it launched the Model 14-A in 1957. In the early 1970s Casio decided to branch out into watch making in order to strengthen its earning base. In October 1974, Casio launched its first watch, the CASIOTRON. In April 1983, Casio launched the world’s first shock resistant watch, the G-SHOCK (DW-5000C). It was a novel design for its time, and was noted for its rigidity and unique appearance. By the 1990s, G-SHOCK had become a classic and went on to become Casio’s signature watch. Casio G-SHOCK watches changed the way the watch industry functioned, as these were one of the wrist watches that could actually be dropped from a height and still be functioning. In January 1984, Casio launched Databank Telememo 10 (CD-40), which was the world’s first databank wrist watch, and could be used to store telephone numbers. March 1985 saw the release of the super-thin PELA FS-10 digital wrist watch. The BM-100WJ digital watch, which came with weather prediction sensors, was launched in February 1989. In December 1994, Casio introduced the Baby G-SHOCK line of shock-resistant wristwatches for women. In June 1995, Casio launched the FKT-100L radio-controlled watch. 1998 saw the launch of the PC-UNITWE PC-compatible watch. Casio introduced the world’s first GPS watch, the SATELLITE NAVI in June 1999. November 2002 saw the release of "The G", the ultimate G-SHOCK wrist watch. In November 2004, Casio launched the OCEANUS and LILANA line of solar powered radio controlled watches. |
