WeissEstablished by Albert Weiss, the company was named after his "family name", in 1947, in the city of New York. Though Weiss discontinued production in 1971, the company’s costume jewellery and collectables are most sought after in the vintage category, even today. Most costume jewellery labelled as Weiss were produced by the company; others were outsourced from Hollywood Jewellery Co. Weiss also developed collectibles occasionally ó all for the high-end market. The smart strategy of capturing both the market segments, high-end and low-end, proved very successful for the company. In the 1950s, the company witnessed its peak. Weiss offered a wide variety of costume jewellery, which included necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pendants, etc. Often, the company sold sets that comprised necklace and earring or bracelet and earring. Weiss costume jewellery was often embedded with rhinestones of different shapes such as baguettes, teardrops and chatons. These were mostly fixed with prong-set. The stones also looked as real as emerald or topaz. Most earrings have clips at their hind to provide a perfect hold to the ear. The necklaces have a J-hook, whereas the bracelets have clasps. The flexible lining to some bracelets have a golden tone to them. The company also launched its collection based on seasonal requirements and fashion. |
