Handsfree

Handsfree is a commonly used phrase with regard to mobile phones and has become prevalent worldwide. Handsfree refers to any device that allows one to talk on a cell phone without needing to hold the phone against the ear. The term comes from the fact that both the user’s hands are free to perform other tasks while talking on the phone. Thus, the user can both listen and talk on the phone while it still resides in the pocket, belt pouch or bag.

The basic components of a handsfree kit include earphones and a microphone. While some handsfree devices are connected by a cable to the phone, others such as Bluetooth handsfree kit are completely wireless. All that is needed is a tiny, lightweight gadget that is ergonomically contoured to fit around and over the ear. The talktime and standby time offered varies with the make and model.

While being a handy device, the handsfree kit also has the potential to protect the user from the supposed ill-effects of cell phone radiation on the brain. This benefit is due to the fact that the phone is no longer required to be pressed against the ear. Some countries have made it mandatory to use the handsfree facility when using the phone while driving. However, this is not a good practice as using the phone while driving, per se, causes a lapse in the driver’s concentration.
