Acoustic BassAcoustic bass guitar or simply acoustic bass is a musical bass instrument that has a wooden hollow body. Ernie Ball from San Luis Obispo, California introduced the first modern acoustic bass guitar during the early 1970s. His idea was to provide an instrument with bass guitars that would enhance their sound considerably. He explained it in a very simple way saying that if electric bass guitars accompanied electric guitars then acoustic guitars too must have acoustic basses. In 1972, Ernie Ball in association with George Fullerton designed the Earthwood acoustic bass guitar. It's production stopped in 1985. The acoustic bass guitar has a body similar to a steel-string acoustic guitar and can be either fretted or fretless. A standard acoustic bass guitar generally has four strings tuned E-A-D-G. Acoustic bass guitars having five or more strings are uncommon since the body of an acoustic bass guitar is not big enough to create a resonance of suitable volume at low pitch. Generally acoustic basses are equipped with pickups that are either piezoelectric or magnetic or both and need to be amplified with a Public Address system or an instrument amplifier. A number of semi-acoustic models have pickups that are to be utilized with an amplifier. |
