Acoustic GuitarThe acoustic guitar is a kind of guitar that does not need electronic amplification to generate desired volumes of sound. The acoustic sound it produces is because of the way the guitar’s body has been designed and the resonance it provides. Since it is not a loud instrument, it cannot be heard clearly in a crowd or within an orchestra with other musical instruments, unless connected with amplified sound output. The acoustic guitar can be classified into five primary types: the classical, the steel-string, the archtop, the 12-string and the semi-acoustic. The classical or the Spanish guitar has nylon strings and is used to play a variety of music genres, especially western classical and folk music. A steel-string or flat-top guitar has a larger body, a more slender neck and a stronger foundation and also produces a much richer sound as compared to a Spanish guitar. An archtop guitar has a slim body with an f-hole face design similar to that of a violin. The 12-string has steel strings and is a popular instrument in blues, folk and rock ’n’ roll music. The semi-acoustic (also known as the ’electro acoustic guitar’) is an acoustic guitar equipped with in-built electronics to enable sound amplification. Some of the popular brands in acoustic guitars are Fender, Ibanez and Gibson. Fender acoustic guitars are one of the finest, one of its popular models being the fender DG5 acoustic guitar. Ibanez acoustic models include the AW and AES series. Gibson produces the J and Super J series of acoustics. |
