Ampeg

Ampeg is a U.S. based well-known manufacturer of amplifiers. The company specialises in the production of electric bass guitar amplification, electric guitar, and orchestral upright bass amplifiers. The company was first established as "Michael-Hull Electronic Labs" when it was a partnership between Everett Hull, an accomplished pianist and bassist, and Stanley Michaels.

Ampeg was originally founded to manufacture new microphone pickup and instrument amplifiers with the least output distortion. The pickup was meant to be fitted at the end of an upright bass. This was named the "Amplified Peg" or "Ampeg". The organisation was subsequently renamed the "Ampeg Bassamp Company", after Hull gained sole proprietorship of the company. In 1960, Jess Oliver created a combo bass amplifier with a chassis that became known as the "Portaflex". This amplifier became the popular choice in bass combos through the 1960s.
