BaldwinBaldwin is the name of an electric guitar manufactured by the globally renowned guitar manufacturer, Gibson. This guitar is designed to be easy to play on and is, therefore, targeted at students. However, even veteran musicians have been known to play this instrument. Having a sleek body and a rich finish, this guitar combines aesthetics with comfortable playing. The Baldwin guitar has been the result of collaboration between the Gibson guitar company and another musical instrument manufacturer, Baldwin Piano. The resultant Gibson Baldwin Music Education (GBME) organization initiated a venture for creating professional quality instruments for music learners. Unlike acoustic guitars, being electric, the sound from the Baldwin guitar was generated by the vibrations in the strings getting converted into electrical energy that was transmitted from an amplifier to the end-speakers. The Baldwin guitar consists of a head, the neck, fretboard and the headstock. The six strings of the guitar are stretched tautly from near the middle of the body to the headstock. The headstock has six tuning pegs around which the end of each string is firmly wound. During tuning, the pegs can be rotated in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction to modify the tension in the string and get the correct tonal pitch. The frets are arranged along the length of the fretboard, and indicate to the player as to where he/she is supposed to place the fingers while playing. |
