Bass CabPlayers of bass guitar, double bass or various similar instruments need to ensure if the amplification system is reproducing accurate notes even at high volume levels. These instruments require a different kind of amplification that can overcome the challenge involved in reproducing low-frequency sounds. While major systems would be capable enough of pumping enough power to rock a concert, the speaker set must be capable enough of utilising that much power. One of the major parameters that determine the final output of bass sounds is the design of the loudspeakers and the cabinet. Speaker cabinets usually feature very large or multiple speaker units that may have more than one driver cone. As bass sounds fall in the lower frequency range of the audible spectrum, large speakers move huge quantities of air than regular units; moving more air is typical requirement for accurately reproducing louder bass sounds. The bass instrument speaker cabinets feature a much more rigid construction and often include bass reflex ports or openings. Generally, larger cabinets (in relation to the diameter of the speaker) produce deeper bass sound. As larger speakers move more air, a majority of bass cabs deploy a vented bass-reflex design. A vented design features an opening, cut into the cabinet and a tubular or rectangular conduit affixed into that portion. The opening or ’port’ enhances the bass cabinet's efficiency and output along with lowering distortion levels. Certain cabinets depend on a transmission-line design (similar to bass-reflex) and some very large cabinets use horn-loading of woofer units. In completely sealed cabinets, the trapped volume of air acts as a 'spring' or cushion and absorbs the excessive air pressure produced by heavy-duty bass speakers. The absence of port noise in sealed cabinets exhibits faster transient response, which results in more precise sound reproduction even at high volume levels. Numerous such brands of bass cabinets including Marshall bass cabinets are on sale. Behringer bass cabs are also available on popular selling websites. |
