Bass CabinetA bass cabinet is the usually wooden box within which the woofer and some of the other speakers of an audio speaker system are housed. The size and shape as well as the rigidity of the cabinet are important considerations to get the best output from the speakers. Considering that speakers may need to be moved from one location to another, most bass cabinet manufacturers try to keep the weight of the product down, without sacrificing on strength. A contributing factor to the final output of the speakers is the resonance generated within the cabinet when the electrical signal causes the speaker cone to vibrate. Therefore, the orientation of the speaker in the cabinet and its size can make a difference in the output. Most professional cabinets are precision-tuned and calibrated. A good combination would be to integrate a composite plywood cabinet with aluminum-cone drivers. Bass cabinets are designed to offer crystal clear sound across a wide range of frequencies. Some cabinets incorporate a variable level attenuator that works in conjunction with high frequency horns. A resistive bulb connected serially with the horn prevents damage due to sudden power bursts. Most bass cabinets are rendered with a sturdy covering with reinforced edges. Handles provided on top ease transportation. Alternatively, the cabinet can be dragged on mini crates. Bass cabinets are versatile enough to be used during outdoor rock concerts as well as, on a lower level, with home music systems or guitar amplifiers. |
