Bass ComboElectronic bass guitars are string instruments that require an amplifier to project the sounds produced by them. Although they resemble electric guitars in more ways than one, they have larger bodies, longer necks and different scale lengths. Amplifiers attached to electric bass guitars are often combined with other external features to deliver higher sound quality or to add value to the product. These are often referred to as bass combo amplifiers. Mostly, bass combo amplifiers have amplifier electronics inbuilt in one or more speakers in a single unit or in a different amplifier heads or cabinet speakers. Bass combo amplifiers often offer portability and are preferred for practice sessions. Combo amplifiers are generally categorised into full-size (1x12) and full-size (2x12). The first one is designed to deliver at least 50 Watts of power; whereas the latter offers extra stereo effects. The 1x12 combo amps have 12" speakers that make them small stand-alone amplifiers, ideal for small performances. Most high-end models have sound quality similar to that of professional speakers. The 2x12 combo amplifiers are heavier because of the extra speaker, which is attached to produce extra output. They are extremely versatile as they can be used for practising or for road gigs. Some bass combo amplifiers feature musical loops, providing endless jamming. |
