CornishCornish music has been derived from rich traditions that go back centuries. The music has it's origins in Cornwall, a scenic British county. Famous for it's folk music, the county has given to the world some memorable and hauntingly beautiful songs that are very popular even today. With a number of Cornish musical festivals being regularly conduced, the musical spirit has been kept alive down the ages. Some of the main exponents of Cornish music are the brass bands and male choirs. The Cornwall Fiddle Orchestra are composed of a group of fiddlers who often have given performances outside Cornwall too, in countries like Scotland, Brittany and Ireland. A Cornish folk singer, Brenda Wootton, is known and appreciated around the globe. Bands belting out danceable tunes include Anao Atao, Bucca, The Cambone Town Band, Dalla and Sowena, among numerous others. Many well-known contemporary musicians such as the drummer of the legendary rock group Queen, Roger Taylor, Richard James and the American singer and lyricist, Tori Amos have had, or still have, affiliations with the Cornish music culture. In Cornwall, the most widely used instruments include the fiddle, the horn-pipe, the harp and bagpipes. Some Cornish bands give the music a more wholesome tone with the usage of accordions and bangos. |
