Custom Shop

Custom Shop is a division of Fender Musical Instruments. The shop began in 1987 and was under the supervision of then CEO Bill Schultz. It has its headquarters in Corona, Riverside County, California. The main aim of the company is to create instruments in the tradition of American luthier Leo Fender and his staff at the original Fender facilities in Fullerton, CA. Custom shop produces special-order guitars for customers ordering through the Custom Shop dealer network. It also creates limited edition 'art' guitars, amplifiers and carries out research and design for the parent company.

Fender Custom Shop generally creates one-off products, which are designed to meet the needs of specific artists. These products are not explicitly intended for the public. Some of these products include the tweed Twin Reverb for Eric Clapton, the Jag-Stang model designed with help from Kurt Cobain and Telecaster for Danny Gatton. Some of these models have near-exact replicas that are made available to the public. They are limited in number and are generally expensive. These models are crafted by hand and are tagged ’Master-built’. The store also includes signature guitars of Albert Collins, Merle Haggard and John5, best known as a guitarist in Marilyn Manson's band.
