DigidesignFounded in 1984 as Digidrums, Digidesign is a digital audio technology company with its headquarters in Daly City, California. It was established by Peter Gotcher and Evan Brooks and provides all the required tools to the professional music, broadcast, multimedia and film industries for audio creation, post production, collaboration and distribution. The company started with selling EPROM chips for drum machines, for raising money for the founders’ band. It launched its first digital audio workstation system, Sound Tools, for the Apple Macintosh in 1989. Digidesigns chief product is the Digidesign Pro Tools, which was released in 1991. The first Pro Tools multitrack system made its mark in the digital audio industry. This integrated software and hardware system (digital audio workstation) is one the most popular systems used for audio production for television, music and film. It comes in three variations knwon as Pro Tools HD, Pro Tools LE, and Pro Tools M-Powered. The Pro Tools HD is intended for professional use, whereas Pro Tools LE is intended for home users and some post-production facilities. The Pro Tools LE package includes Pro Tools LE software and hardware like the Digidesign Mbox 2 or Digidesign 003. The other products produced by the company are variety of hardware add-ons for Pro Tools, such as audio interfaces, MIDI interfaces, Synchronizers and control surfaces. Digidesign joined hands with Avid Technology, Inc. and now operates as a business unit of Avid. The company has won many accolades including a Grammy award, an Oscar, Future's 2006 ACE Award, TEC Award, PAR Excellence Award, ProducciÛn Audio Magazine Awards and much more. |
