Double NeckThe neck of a guitar contains frets, fretboard, tuners, headstock and truss rod, all of which are affixed onto a long wooden extension protruding from the main body. A guitar that has two necks attached to the main body is called a double neck guitar. Both the necks usually feature six or seven strings; although, recent trends have seen the use of 12 strings on the top neck and six on the bottom. Some times a combination of 6-string and 4-string pattern is featured. Most double neck guitars have one fretless neck from two of the necks. Many different manufacturers follow their own distinct styles for designing and manufacturing guitars. Of the varied choices, a fretless guitar may be combined with a regular guitar or any of the numerous combinations of guitar neck styles. A double neck guitar provides the guitar player the flexibility and convenience of instantly switching between two guitars at the same time. One of the popular double neck guitars is the Gibson EDS-1275. Lead guitarist of Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, made this model quite famous while playing the highly popular song, "Stairway to Heaven" during his live performances. For beginners or enthusiasts, various manufacturers like Shergold Guitars have a gamut of double neck guitars on sale. Many high quality or even cheap used double guitars are on sale on popular online shopping sites. |
