GuitarThe guitar is a pivotal member of the family of stringed instruments. It is also one of the oldest musical instruments, its earliest form dating 2000 BC. It is used to play a variety of music genres including classical, rock, blues, country and flamenco. It usually has 6 or 12 strings although four, seven, eight and ten-stringed models are also available. Guitars can be classified into two main categories- acoustic and electric. As compared to an electric guitar, acoustic guitars do not require electronic amplification because of their body design and resonance. However, it is not a loud instrument and hence wonít be heard in a crowd or within a band of other musical instruments without any amplified sound output. The acoustic guitar can be further divided into five primary types: the steel-string which is mainly flat-top or folk-style, the classical with nylon strings, the archtop with an f-hole design reminiscent of a violin, the 12-string used in folk, blues and rock ëní roll music and the semi-acoustic with integrated power for sound amplification. The electric guitar comes in a solid, hollow or semi-hollow body and emanates the desired volume of sound when connected to electronic amplifiers. The amplification not only helps in producing loud music but also enables creation of distortion and other similar sound effects. This instrument has had a huge impact on popular culture and is used mainly in rock, blues, country and heavy-metal music. Today, one of the most common instruments that people prefer to be self-taught in is the Guitar. For music notes, they usually obtain guitar tablature from their nearest music store. Guitar tabs of favourite tunes are also available on numerous websites. |
