HofnerKarl Hofner GmbH & Co. KG is a German company which manufactures high quality musical instruments. The company has a devoted division to manufacture guitars, basses, whereas different string instruments are manufactured by a separate division. Karl Hofner founded the company in 1887, in the city of Schonbach, Germany. Currently the company is owned by Klaus Scholler, who was the General Manager of Hofner for many years. Hofner musical instruments gained popularity by their ever famous 500/1 semi-acoustic bass model. It was an electrically amplified bass invented by Walter Hofner in 1955. Paul McCartney, who was the bassist of "The Beatles" rock band, used the 1962 variant of the 500/1 bass. The 500/1 bass were extremely light weight and had a rich, warm tone. 500/1 body had a double bass body shape and was easy to play. "The Beatles" rock band was instrumental in increasing the popularity of Hofner musical instruments. Some of the much preferred Hofner musical instruments are Hofner Senator, Hofner Verithin and Hofner Shorty. Hofner guitars and Hofner bass are available at various stores which sell musical instruments.
