Lakland

Lakland Musical Instruments are the makers of coveted bass guitars. Dan Lakin and Hugh McFarland are the founders. Officially, production of Lakland’s bass guitars began in 1995. The ancestor was a blend of Fender Jazz Bass and Music Man StingRay. However, Fender exerted pressure on Lakland to change their headstock as it was noticeably similar to theirs. Hence, the new Lakland bass prototype that was unveiled featured the now classic Lakland oval bridge plate.

Over the years Lakland rolled out its two lines of basses - the USA Series and Skyline Series. The Skyline series is manufactured in Korea and the USA series is handmade at the Chicago factory. Accounts of Lakland’s success have featured in Forbes Magazine and Music Inc. Magazine.

Some of the guitars featured in the USA Series include Lakland Deluxe 494 (4-string), Lakland Classic 55-94 (5-string), Lakland Standard 55-94 (5-string), and Lakland Deluxe 55-94 (5-string). The Lakland Deluxe 55-94 (5-string) has three variants.

Some of the new guitars featured in the Skyline Series include Lakland Skyline 44-02 Deluxe (4- string), Lakland Skyline 55-02 (5-string), Lakland Skyline 55-02 (5-string), and Lakland Skyline 55-02 (5-string).

Though the Skyline Series is manufactured overseas, no stone is left unturned in ensuring that guitars from these series are at par with their USA series cousins. At the Lakland factory, the Skyline Series undergoes rigorous refining which includes a detailed and thorough inspection of every aspect of the bass and complete installation of electronics.

Bass heavyweights like Darryl Jones, Duck Dunn, Bob Glaub, Joe Osborn and Jerry Scheff, have worked in harness with Lakland to develop the 'Lakland Artist Signature Models'.
