LomoLomo or Lomography is a series of products or services trademarked by Lomographische AG. The name was inspired from a manufacturer LOMO, whose camera was used in an art form that was cultivated by a handful of Russian students in 1991. During this period, cameras in the USSR were so cheap that many people started using cameras in a casual way. Many rolls of films were used just capturing the pictures inchoately. These photographs actually started breaking the rules that were laid down by conventional photographers. They were literally off-centre and out of focus, which gave a different definition to photography altogether. The Lomo lens was garishly coloured, which became a peculiarity of this genre. Lomo photographs gradually became a craze in this era. In 1996, the parent company stopped making these cameras, thus ended the trend of Lomo art. However, the short existence of this photography has made an impression throughout the world. Some enthusiasts today look forward for these photographs. It is important to remember that Lomo has created its own rules, which categorises any given photograph in Lomo if they fulfil them. These photographs are completely out of focus. Lomographische AG has been following this trend even today. They have introduced 10 rules of Lomo: one needs to take Lomo wherever they go. Lomo should be used anytime be it day or night and such other rules. |
