MonopodHand-held Cameras, video cameras, binoculars and similar optical devices are often supported on a pole known as a monopod or a unipod. This photographic equipment steadies the camera, minimising the camera shake and miniscule random motion. Even at slower shutter speeds, the pictures turn out sharp when monopods are used. Monopods are lightweight and portable so that they can be easily transported and shifted from place to place. Usually monopods are designed such that they fold or slide within easily, for convenient storage. The compact design of monopods makes them ideal for use even in small indoor settings. Monopods are often used in a leaning position with another support to create a bipod. You can remove horizontal motion in video cameras by employing this technique. Swivel head monopods are very useful as they enable the photographer to position the camera as per his/her choice. The foot of the monopod can also be supported on the chest or waist of the photographer, with an adaptor. This type of monopod is usually referred to as a ’chestpod’ or ’beltpod’ depending on the support used. Many photographers prefer this type of monopod as the camera is held steadier than if only the hand was used. It also offers controlled mobility of the camera for the photographer. Various materials are used in the manufacture of monopods such as aluminium, carbon fibre and wood. Carbon fibre monopods are much sought after among photographers. Several manufacturers and dealers offer camera monopods in various designs and sizes to meet the exact requirements of the professionals. |
