Art GlassThe term glass art refers to the use of glass as an artistic medium. This transparent object has been shaped, designed and styled through centuries. Art glass, as it is called, can be created into different artefacts throughout. The property of accepting various colours, still retaining its transparency has given glass artefacts an undying beauty of its own. From simple silicon to an impeccable object of art, the methods of glass art are categorised according to regions and techniques they adopt. For example, stained glass is a process where glass is adorned with a variety of colours. One can often see stained glass work on windows of churches, lamp shades, etc. Another procedure followed by ancient Romans and Egyptian is ’glass beadmaking’. This art work of glass is more than at least 30,000 years old. One gets a clear idea from the name, ’glass beadmaking’ itself, that it is related to making glass beads. These are colourful with minute details that make them absolutely desirable. Most of them are used in costume jewellery, others may be used for decorations. Glass blowing is yet another popular form of glass art. The process involves shaping the glass while it is in its molten form. Using this technology, artists often make dining ware such as drinking glass, bowls, vases and other artefacts. |
