CapodimonteFor all porcelain enthusiasts, Capodimonte is no new word. This popular Italian brand of porcelain figurines, flowers and artefacts has been in existence since 1743. The factory was established by the Spanish King, Charles and his wife, Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony. The paste was perfected and then many skilled men and women shaped the paste to plates, vases, bowls, cups, jugs, teapots, boxes and others. This is how the Capodimonte name became synonymous for quality porcelain. Today, however, these figurines are not directly manufactured by the company but are sourced from skilled artists of porcelain from across the world. The creativity of the Neapolitan artists have been passed down the generations and figurines that were hand-made initially are factory made today. These artefacts have colours that make them look realistic. Capodimonte also has a repair centre which specialises in restoration of damaged pieces. Some of these figurines and products have found themselves a place in different museums and attract a lot of tourists from all over the world. Most of these exhibits are extremely expensive and rare. It is difficult for a modern collector to find older Capodimontes in the common market. Capodimonte also runs special offers on corporate gifts and some of them are offered at cheaper rates. |
