Carlton WareCarlton ware is a pottery company creating various types of articles in different designs. James Fredrick Wiltshaw and W.H and J.A Robinson opened the company in partnership, at Copeland Street, Stoke-on-Trent and named it as Carlton works in 1890. Later in 1984, they included the name Carlton ware to create a new trade mark for the company. The company traded very successfully and finally changed its name to Carlton Ware Limited in 1958. Carlton Ware Limited produced a wide range of items from vases to bowls to ginger jars and more. It also produced bone china crested ware in different designs and colours that attracted attention and gave tough competition to Goss china wares, during the 19th century. Later, in fifties, the company came up with more creative items such as toucans, which were used for promotional purposes for Guinness advertising and small animal figure that could be used for home decoration purposes. But one of the most popular ranges during that time was the salad ware whose craze continued until mid seventies. The company continued to produce excellent quality items from flowers and plants to tea sets in various colours, especially in two tone colours. The Walking Ware range ñ a tea set on legs, was the last and one of the most successful collections of the Carlton ware’s produced before it finally shut down in 1992. Since then, there have been many fake Carton wares being sold in the market. Hence, proper care should be taken while buying such items from the market or from online stores. |
