CarnCarn Pottery was founded in the early 1970s by John M Beusmans at the Old Chapel, in the small village of Nancledra. Located half-way down the Penzance road from St Ives, this village is around three miles south-east of Carn Naun Point. All Carn Pottery pieces are slip-cast and the distinctive colour produced by mixing copper oxide and copper with cobalt. The mixture is then applied with a mop. Pots and other items are made by firing pots in an electric kiln at 1140∞C. Carn Pottery items bear the traditional mark, which is a simple rubber stamp providing either the name or both the name and address of the pottery. Some popular Carn Pottery pieces include bottles, vases, curved bottles, owls, Carn plaques, cone lamps and rare pottery trapeziums, among others. Many Carn Pottery pieces have become a collector’s item and are an excellent gifting option. Carn Pottery items come in various sizes, shapes, colours and designs. They can be used to decorate the home and garden. There are various Carn Pottery books available that provide information about Carn pottery. These books, along with the various pottery pieces, are available online and are also stocked by pottery retailers. |
