Dartington

Dartington Crystal is a well-known manufacturer of exquisite crystal ware. The company is based in Torrington, England. It was founded by the Dartington Hall Trust, a charity organisation that assists in economic development of rural areas by means of business, education and the arts. In the 1960s, Dartington Hall Trust decided to start a glass-making factory for providing employment to the youth. The company was officially opened in June, 1967. Scandinavian glass blowers were recruited in Devon who trained the English craftsmen over a period of time. The company has reputation for creating some of the finest glassware in the world. Today, Dartington Crystal operates independently and is not affiliated with the Trust.

The Dartington pieces are created by a group of 12 craftsmen, who work under a master glassblower. This master blower has perfected the glass-blowing techniques over a decade. The pieces are tested and checked thoroughly by a trained eye and if they do not meet the pre-subscribed standards then they are broken and recycled. The final approved products have a Dartington Crystal name stamp on them. The company makes different wares under the name Dartington Crystal, Dartington Glassware and Royal Brierley. Some of the Dartington Crystal items include bowls, vases, drinkware collections, candlelight and other gift items.
