Indian Tree is a pattern that was derived from Indian textile patterns that were used in earlier times. The Indian Tree patterns depicted a crooked branch of a tree and a partial landscape with a variety of unusual and different flowers and leaves. The designs are a riot of colour with pink, blue, orange green and orange being the most preferred colours. The Indian Tree design was the most popular design used by the artisans at Coalport China works. The pattern was first created at the Coalport China factory in 1801, however the first known piece dates back to the 1820s. There is no documented evidence authenticating the origin of the Indian Tree design. It is, however, believed to have been copied from a design on a piece of silk of a soldier in the Shropshire light infantry. Indian Tree is popular among its customers for its spectacular designs.
