Johnson BrosIt was in 1883, when Johnson Bros started manufacturing durable tableware and other earthenware, under the brand label of "White Granite". The four Johnson Bros, Alfred, Frederick, Henry and Robert jointly ventured to give the market well-potted white ware. Unique under-glaze print pottery made the brothers extremely popular. Robert rehabilitated to the United States of America in 1896 to enter the emerging market of tableware there. Their pottery soon gained demand in USA because they were not only beautiful, but also affordable. During World War I, they had to temporarily halt their production, which resumed after the war was over. The company maintained it’s apical with innovative designs, new shapes, patterns and colours, with the Dawn range working wonders. Newer techniques of making halloware items further led to increased production. In the 1930s, they adopted a new method of manufacturing pottery using electrical fire. This gave the Johnson Bros products more accuracy and quality. The Second World War almost halted their production. As a result of war damage followed by the need for improved and increased productivity, various plants were set in England, Canada and Australia. The company witnessed tremendous growth in the 1960s and merged with the Wedgwood Group. Later, the company merged with many others like Coalport, Meakin, Midwinter, Adams, Mason and Crown Staffordshire. In the 2000s, headquarters of the company moved to China. |
