One of the most popular memorabilia collected from celebrities are the autographs. These personally signed names are treasured for years by fans. There are instances of some autographs being auctioned for huge amounts of money. Autographs from sports stars are very popular. This accounts for the wild enthusiasm shown by the crowd at the end of a match to rush towards the border of the stands in the hope that the departing players may favour them with the all-important signature.

While fans take their prized autographs on any available material such as a napkin, kerchief, empty cup, or even the backside of the ticket, getting an autograph on a ball or one of the items used in the play is a greater achievement. A number of sporting items are available that have been signed by sports celebrities. These include jerseys, cricket bats, cups, wristbands, caps, programme guides, books, photographs and numerous other items.

Some of the autographs are a pleasure to view years later and reminisce about the long ago victory of a favourite team or the personal participation in a world-class tournament. Autographed souvenirs have the potential to become conversation items too, when placed in showcases and other prominently displayed areas of the home.
