The sport involves two teams with 11 players in each team. This sport is generally played on a grass field. The teams take turn in batting and fielding. Batting is done on a pitch at the centre of the grass field. The batting team has to score as many runs as possible, while the fielding team has to get the batsmen out or save the runs. Batting gloves are worn by the batsmen. These gloves provide maximum grip and ensure comfort, while batting. Batting pads are worn from the knee downwards for maximum protection to the batsmen. Cricket ball is made from core of cork. The ball is layered with tightly wound string and is covered with a leather casing, along with a slightly raised sewn seam. Test cricket balls are red in colour and one-day cricket balls are white in colour. Cricket apparels comprise trousers, shirts, caps or hats and sweaters, depending upon the weather. Specific type of footwear is required for cricket. Helmets with grills are worn by the batsmen for protection.
