British AirwaysBritish Airways is an airline company that has its genesis in a 1924 amalgamation of four UK-based airlines; Daimler Airways, Instone Air Line, British Air Marine Navigation and Handley Page Transport. The new airline service formed was called Imperial Airways, whose destinations mostly included Australia and Africa. In 1935, a number of other British airline companies combined to give rise to British Airways Ltd. In 1939, British Airways and Imperial Airways formed the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) through a government initiative. Subsequently, another group of airlines combined to create the British European Airways (BEA), which in 1974 merged with the BOAC to form British Airways. This company went on to become the biggest airline in the UK and the fifth largest in the whole of Europe. Today, British Airways flights cover almost the entire globe. Considering the reputation of the company, British Airways jobs are also highly coveted. British Airways’ main areas of operation include the London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports with the Manchester Airport being a secondary hub. The airline is legally authorized to transport passengers, cargo and even mail. With a fleet size of around 234 and the number of destinations exceeding 222, British Airways is truly an airline behemoth today and is the founder of the Oneworld airline alliance. Schemes such as the frequent flyer program permit loyal business and holiday customers to join the executive club. |
