Isle Of Wight

The Isle of Wight is an island located off the southern English coast and towards the south of the county of Hampshire. Popular since the Victorian times, this holiday destination is called "The Island" by the residents. The Isle of Wight is known for it's rich history, geographical diversity, and wildlife. This island was home to the legendary poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson and Queen Victoria, who had her summer residence built in East Cowes.

The Isle of Wight has a geographical area of 147 square miles, which comprises 99.6 square miles of farmland, 20 square miles of developed areas and 57 miles of coastline. This island landscape includes breathtaking soft cliffs, rivers and sea ledges, which attract tourists. This place is also blessed with rare wildlife that includes red squirrels, doormice and rare bats. The economy of this island mainly thrives on tourism, apart from agricultural, sheep and dairy farming and also the manufacturing of sailcloth, boats and other maritime industry related equipment.

The Isle of Wight has many hotels, hostels and camping sites. The place is a favourite tourist destination of many, especially during holidays. The quickest and most convenient access to the Isle of Wight is through passenger services like the ferry service provided by various companies from the mainland. This island is most famous for the ’Isle of Wight’ music festival that takes place every year.
