Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on June 20, 1949. He is an American rhythm and blues performer, composer, producer and even film actor. Lionel Richie shot to fame when he fronted for the Motown band, The Commodores during the ’70s. Along with The Commodores, he produced many hits like ’Easy’, ’Brick House’ and ’Three Times A Lady’. In 1981, Lionel Richie left The Commodores to start his own singing career. This proved to be a wise move, since he went on to become one of the most successful artists of the ’80s. In 1982, Lionel Richie released his debut album. Simply entitled ’Lionel Richie’, this album immediately rose to No. 3 on the music charts, selling in excess of 4 million copies. In 1983, Lionel Richie released the follow up album ’Can't Slow Down’. This album earned him the Album of the Year award in the 1984 Grammies. In 1986, Lionel Richie released his third album ’Dancing On The Ceiling’. This Lionel Richie CD remains among the highest selling albums of all time, featuring hits like the title track ’Dancing On The ceiling’, ’Say You, Say Me’ and ’Se La’. ’Dancing On The Ceiling’ remains Lionel Richie’s last hit album to date. Despite this, most Lionel Richie concerts are sell-out events even today.
