Manic Street PreachersThe Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers began their career in 1991. Many associate ’The Manics’ with the Britpop scene, but their style is far too evolved for that label. Their lyrics are usually deep and politically oriented. One could probably categorize the Manic Street Preachers as an alternative rock band. The Manic Street Preachers launched itself under the band name ’Betty Blue’ in 1986. The original lineup consisted of lead guitarist James Dean Bradfield, drummer Sean Moore, rhythm guitarist Nicky Wire and bassist Miles ’Flicker’ Woodward. The band cherished a dream of selling 20 million album copies with their first release. That did not happen, but the Manic Street Preachers certainly became a British rock icon band. The band released eight studio albums since their debut ’Generation Terrorists’ in 1989. The latest release was ’Send Away The Tigers’, which hit the stands in 2007. Their most famous albums to date are ’Holy Bible’ and its follow-up album ’Everything Must Go’. There are reports that the Manic Street Preachers will launch a major UK tour in 2007. Scheduled to begin in May, this tour will promote the band’s eighth studio album ’Send Away the Tigers’. This tour will be the Manic Street Preachers’ first in two years. |
