Mary PoppinsMary Poppins is a very popular children book series written by P. L. Travers. Original illustration for the series was provided by Mary Shepard. The story of the Mary Poppins series is based on a magical English nanny who is blown by the wind to Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, London. She is taken into the Banks' household to care for the Banks' children. The books take the readers through various adventures until Mary Poppins abruptly leaves. The series comprises of a total of eight books in which only the first three books feature Mary Poppins arriving and leaving. The later five books give an account of previously unrecorded adventures from Poppins' original three visits. The first book of the series, "Mary Poppins", was published in 1934. The first book introduced the characters of the story to the readers apart from taking the characters through different adventures. "Mary Poppins Comes Back", "Mary Poppins Opens the Door" and "Mary Poppins in the Park" are some of the popular books in the series. "Mary Poppins and the House Next Door" is the last book in the series and was first published in 1988. In 1964, Disney Group adapted the books into a musical film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. In 2004, a stage musical adaptation was produced by Disney Theatrical in West End, London. In 2006, the stage musical was transferred to Broadway. Nowadays Mary Poppins theatre and musical shows are shown throughout Europe. Tickets are available online on various sites. |
