Newcastle

Newcastle United Football Club is an English professional football team which was founded in 1892. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, it is one of the most popular English football clubs.

The Newcastle UK is known by many nicknames such as "The Magpies" or "The Toon". The club was formed after the merger of two local clubs, Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End. Since 1898, they contested the Tyne-Wear derby with their traditional rivals, the Sunderland at St James' Park in the old Newcastle West End ground. During the 1900só1905, 1907 and 1909 the team went on to win the League Championship on three occasions. With their glorying victory they were considered to be one of the best teams in the country. Subsequently, in the 1950s, Newcastle won the FA Cup trophy on three occasions. The United team shirt colours have not been consistent; however, the popular colours used by the club in European competition are all yellow with black shorts, all grey with black trim and lately sky blue and black.

The popularity of the Newcastle United saw the emergence of many fan clubs. Newcastle United fans and supporters are famous as the "Toon Army".
