Ricky GervaisRicky Dene Gervais is a well-known English comic writer and comedian, famed for his BBC Two television programme, The Office. Born on 25 June 1961, in Reading, Berkshire, he was the youngest of four children. Growing up in relative poverty, he was poor in his studies too. He more than made up for this drawback through his enthusiasm for being a comedian. Ricky did several odd jobs before opting for a job as an events manager at the University of London Union. He later took up a job at the London radio station, XFM, in 1996. During his time at the XFM radio station, he met Stephen Merchant, who together with him contributed sketches to BBC Radio 1's The Breezeblock in 1999 and 2000. He later contributed to Channel 4's The Eleven O’clock Show and was eventually offered his own show. He got his big break with his lead role in The Office, which he co-wrote and co-directed with Stephen Merchant. The show received accolades and awards including Two Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, four British Comedy Awards and the prestigious American award, The Peabody.
