Short BreakThe term "short break" is used to refer to a vacation whose duration is somewhere in the middle of that of a weekend break and a full-fledged vacation. Often people coincide these breaks with their weekend offs, traditional holidays such as Christmas, Easter, etc. or national holidays, so that they can enjoy a relatively longer holiday. Short breaks are usually more than 3 days long and are increasingly seen as assort of stress-buster. However, one must also note that the term "short break" is largely ambiguous, and as such often travel service providers may pass off weekend breaks or other such short-term holidays (which may even be as short as one day) as short breaks. There are also hobby-specific short breaks like ski-short breaks. The destinations for short breaks may be accessible within 3-4 hours or may be on the transatlantic scale. Popular destinations in the UK for short breaks are Lake District, Devon, Cornwall, the Yorkshire Dales, Scotland (especially Edinburgh), Wales (especially Cardiff), Ireland, etc. In continental Europe Italy (in particular Rome), Prague and France are extremely popular. Off these perhaps the most visited place is France, and more so is Paris. Short breaks in continental Europe are increasingly becoming popular due to fast rail services like Eurostar. Transatlantic short break destinations include New York, Las Vegas, etc. |
