Action FiguresAction figures are toy figurines particularly targeted towards boys. They play with these masculine, strong and sometimes uniformed toys. The action figures are usually inspired by characters of cartoon, movies, comic book or video games. In the past, the most popular action figures are G.I Joes. These GI Joe figurines have a military theme unlike today’s figures that come with varied themes. Hasbro, the manufacturer of these figurines is also the creator of of all the famous action heroes including Doctor Who, Batman, WWF action figures etc. Apart from Hasbro, Dragon in Dream is another company that produces top quality uniformed action figures . The Dragon figures are 12 inches soldiers, with weapons and vehicles! These figurines came to be known as action figures in 1960’s when it was first launched by the Hasbro Company in 1964. With the launch of these action figures, the market saw, for the first time, a 12-inch GI Joe toy with interchangeable clothes and poses, vehicles and other accessories. Looking at the demand, by 1966 many new companies started making such figures like the Ideal Company’s "Captain Action" toys. These toys could be converted into any comic character or hero by just changing the costume, mask and other paraphernalia. In 1972, Mego started making new line of ’super hero’ figures that measured 8 inches in height and featured body gloves and other. The 70’s gave the world a new pop culture hero from the ever so loved galactic series - Star Wars. The Kenner Products acquired all the rights for the toys and games of Lucas films. It started producing 3 ¾ inches small Star War toys that spread a new rage all over! A new and drastic change was seen in the market in the 80’s. The toy companies started producing action figure lot toy based entertainment series. Some of the well ñ known names included ’He ñ Man and the Masters of the Universe’, ’Thunder cats’ and the most favourite ’the Transformers’. "Transformers" was a revolution in itself. It allowed the action figures to convert itself into cars and other vehicles. They were the first ever-robotic action figure! In the later years of 1990 the new range of heroes were introduced based on the super heroes created by Marvel Comics - The Marvel Action Figures,along with WWE action figures, Doctor Who ñ with time machines and space ships and Vintage Action Man. Roary the Racing Car is a new addition in the lines of action figures based on a series that was running on UK channels and showed talking cars and their care takers. Over the years, these action figures have become a reputation of treasured collectible not only for children and kids but also for adults. |
