BB Pellets

BB gun, a type of play gun, is normally used for informal target shooting. Similar to another type of gun Airsoft, BB guns use different kind of pellets which are spherical and known as BBs. BB guns feature a smoothbore barrel which measures 0.177 inches in diameter and calibre. The name BB originated from the lead shotgun pellets used in the earlier BB guns and since then the name has stuck. The size of the pellets used earlier was in the mid range between B and BBB sized bullets. The BB pellets are 0.171 and 0.173 inches in diameter. The current generation BB pellets are mostly made of steel. These are generally plated with copper or zinc although one can still find lead BBs including those made of plastic. Daisy BB guns were the earliest branded BB guns available in the market since 1900.

BB guns are also used in various competitions for kids and youth scouts. Though used for recreational purposes, the BB guns must be used with a lot of carefulness. As these can prove to be dangerous, they are not supposed to be used on humans. Maintaining a fair distance from the targets and wearing protective eye gear are some of the precautions to be taken. These guns use some of the simpler shooting mechanisms of the air guns. Not considered to be a firearm in the United Kingdom, these are available on various shopping websites.
