GhostbustersBased on the 1984 sci-fi comedy, the first Ghostbusters Activision video game was released in the same year. It was initially designed for domestic computer use and later developed for video game consoles like Atari 2600, Sega Master System and NES. The basic gameplay centres on the player needing to establish a ghost-busting franchise in a city with high Psychokinetic or PK energy levels. The player then needs to purchase required equipment like ghost traps and upgrade the vehicle. Next the player begins ghost hunting. Whenever the player reaches a city block that flashes red, the game mode changes to an overhead view of the vehicle driving to that location. The player needs to move right and/or left to vacuum the ghost/s and then moves to a screen where a ’Slimer’ ghost is directed with two proton streams over a ghost trap. Ghostbusters ll was subsequently released in 1989, with a gameplay similar to the first version, but in a different setting. It also had improved changes in graphics and sound. The NEW Ghostbusters ll Edition allowed the player to choose between 5 lead characters. Released in 1990, Ghostbusters the Sega video game was a more straightforward run-and-capture game, than the previous two which were more strategic. The latest Ghostbusters will be released shortly for XBOX 360, Wii and PlayStation3. |
