Lego DuploLego Duplo is a line of building blocks from the Denmark-based toy manufacturer LEGO Group. Lego Duplo sets are designed for small children, and as such are larger in size than the conventional Lego group (doubly long, broad and wide, and consequently being eight times larger in volume), whilst at the same time being compatible with traditional Lego bricks. First launched in 1969, the Lego Duplo range has seen many changes and even the name "Duplo" was dropped twice in the range’s history. Throughout its history the Duplo range saw same sets reappear multiple times, with the most common sets in the range being farm, zoo, police station, fire station, airplane and train sets. Since 1977 the Duplo range began featuring sets with figures, cars and houses. Lego Duplo sets were first launched in 1969, with the introduction of 2-knob 4-row bricks in four colours, which featured four-tagged holes for better adaptability with traditional Duplo bricks. After the Duplo line was separated in 1975 five sets were launched, made entirely from Lego Duplo bricks, which also introduced the small 6-knob 2-row 4-wheel wagon. 1977 saw the dropping of the "Duplo" name in favour of "Preschool", which was then re-introduced in 1979, along with the new rabbit logo. The name was dropped again in 2002, but returned back in fall 2004. |
