LegoThe name Lego is synonymous with miniature building blocks that most of us were familiar with as children. This innovative game was first developed by the Lego group, founded in 1932, by Ole Kirk Christiansen, in Denmark. Lego is actually the abbreviation of the Danish phrase, ’leg godt’, translated as ’play well’. The company, today, is reputed to be the sixth largest toys manufacturer in the world. Lego has always stressed that the success of most of their products can be attributed to the fact that their designers have always regarded children as the role models. While entertaining a kid for hours, Lego blocks are scientifically proven to stimulate the intellectual development of the young mind and increase spatial perception. Additionally, after completing the challenge of assembling all the blocks into the relevant three-dimensional object, the child in filled with a sense of achievement that does wonders for the kid’s confidence. The basic structure of the Lego brick with the interlocking appendages has remained unchanged since 1958. Lego products are designed with something for everyone, from toddlers to ’forever young’ adults. Varied objects can be built with these bricks - simple cars and planes to miniature models of an entire city. Made of non-toxic materials, these blocks are safe for children. Lego Education products are specially designed for schools as educational aids. Some Lego products are built around themes such as Star Wars and Batman. Some Lego bricks can be programmed by a PC for the execution of certain tasks. The Lego group has also opened amusement parks in Europe as well as the USA. In addition to Lego bricks, the company has also diversified into video games. |
