Age Of Empires

Released in October 1997, Age of Empires or AOE is a history-based real-time strategy computer game developed by Ensemble Studios. It was published by Microsoft. Age of Empires utilises the Genie Game Engine and a 2D sprite based game engine. It allows the player to move four ages, comprising Stone Age, Tool Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. The player can also assume the role of a leader of a historical civilization or tribe. The player has to initially build a civilization initially using only a few hunter-gatherers. He has to expand this settlement to a vast Iron Age empire. In order to acquire new units, buildings as well as advanced technology, the player has to scout for resources.

The Age of Empires game includes twelve civilizations, each with its individual set of civilization attributes, a varying number of available technologies and units. All these civilizations have been sorted into four different architectural styles like Asian, Babylonian, Egyptian and Greek. Various single-player scenarios are available where the player has to complete certain campaigns and objectives. The ’random map’ mode is another single-player gameplay where the CPU and human players commence with only a small settlement and must exploit the available resources to build a powerful civilization and declare victory over their rivals. This game also can be played by 8 players simultaneously featuring online and network play. Cheats of Age of Empires 2 and Age of Empires 3 are available online.
