Battlefield 2Battlefield 2 is a role-playing, strategy-based computer game developed by Swedish game development company, Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment (DICE). DICE is now owned by the American video game producer, Electronic Arts (EA). The game player can either choose the single player mode in Battlefield 2, or choose to compete with multiple players over a LAN or across the Internet. The single player mode supports a maximum of 15 computer-based players, while the Internet mode permits 64 players. The game player’s goal is to lower the opposing team’s scores till the count reaches zero. This can be achieved either by taking ’flags’ from the opposing team or eliminating the opponents. While this game plan falls under the ’Conquest’ purview, another strategy called ’Cooperative’ playing involves pitting the player with or against computers called ’bots’. Cheat codes can be obtained to increase the chances of winning the games. Game demos can also be viewed in Battlefield 2. The players can choose one of the three modern combat gaming alliances; the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the Middle East Coalition (MEC). In order to increase the number of these alliances in Battlefield 2 that the player can be part of, he/she can obtain expansion packs. Battlefield 2 won three titles in 1995; the Best Online Multiplayer award from the Game Critics Awards and the Game of the Year award from PC Gamer and PC Powerplay. |
