CDI

CDi (Compact Disc Interactive) refers to an interactive multimedia CD player, launched by Philips in 1991. This player could support many formats, namely interactive CD-i discs, Audio CDs, CD+G (CD+Graphics) and Karaoke CDs and using an optional Digital Video Card it could even play Video CDs (VCDs). Philips promoted many CDi player models, which included CD-i player 200 series, CDi player 300 series, CD-i player 400 series and CD-i player 600 series. 205, 210, and 220 were from the 200 series that was designed for general use in households. On the other hand, the 300 series was designed for the professional users, while the 400 series was targeted at the educational sector. The models in the 300 series included 310, 350, 360, and 370, while 450, 470, 490 were a part of the 400 series. The 600 series was designed for software developers and professional users and included 601, 602, 604, 605, 615, 660, and 670 models.

The titles in the CDi format were initially centred around educational, music, and self-improvement titles. In fact, CD-i also offered a series of games for kids as learning aids, starting from infancy up to adolescence. However, the later titles also included video games, some of them being based on the well-known Nintendo games. These included Hotel Mario, as well as Legend of Zelda games. Other CD-i initiatives included CDi versions of famous TV game shows, namely, Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, Name That Tune, as well as both the versions (for kids and adults) of The Joker's Wild.
